Teamwork Is Wonderful

It's Bridget A Otto Thursday and she has outdone herself with the story today about the teamwork that has developed between Brent and Jorja Hicks, condo owners, and Interior designer Carole Jackson of Carole Jackson Design.

Every room in the house -- even the small bath that Jorja had called "her pet peeve" -- celebrates not only the collaboration between Jorja and Jackson, but also what can happen when talented craftspeople get to show off their skill.

Today is Ruth Mullen Day. In a nice piece about interior designer Jennifer Leonard, entitled Twin Set, Mullen shows how a "striking white Colonial Revival and "a matching playhouse" were restored.

With Jennifer's design touch and green thumb, and her attorney husband's affinity for manual labor, the couple have tackled some daunting tasks, such as taming their half-acre landscape, ripping up old carpet, scraping wallpaper, and painting inside and out. With 3,500 square feet, four full baths and five bedrooms, they have their work cut out for them.[...]

It's also an intimate showcase for Nifelle Design, the interior design business that Jennifer runs from home. Rich custom fabrics and high-end designer furniture mingle with antiques, refinished castoffs and treasured heirlooms, such as the andirons that belonged to her grandmother.

Portland Coffee Tables

The Oregonian's HGNW has an article today written by Nanine Alexander entitled A Table For Your Coffee, And More. The article has pictures of eight coffee tables that offer "...a place to set items you want within easy reach, a drink, a magazine, the remote control." Alexander doesn't mention my main reason for a coffee table, a place to rest my feet in front of the TV.

The article pictures all the coffee tables that are in the Portland area! Remember that old Johnny Carson routine. Johnny's sidekick, Ed McMahon, would repeat that remark: "All the coffee tables that are in the Portland area!" Johnny would say, "Wrong horses' breath!" Alexander lists a few things to consider when you buy a coffee or cocktail table. My main hint: If you are going to prop your feet on the table, make sure it doesn't have a raised lip. Otherwise, it will be very uncomfortable on the backs of your feet.

Cool Cat Furniture

So, you bought one of those sleek, contemporary, lots-of-glass condos in The Pearl or in South Waterfront. What are you going to do for your cat? Are you going to bring that carpet covered cat tower from your old home to the new digs?



Is their an alternative? Decidedly, Yes! I received an email from Dan Lilly at Modern Cat Designs in Oceanside, CA about Designer Cat Furniture for the Choosy Feline and Owner, and liked the lines of the furniture. Take a look:



No, Lilly didn't pay me to write this and I don't have a cat, just a big, goofball golden retriever who loves to chase cats and squirrels.

Mike has posted about the latest offer from Pier 1 (PIR) to acquire Cost Plus (CPWM), of which Oregon has many stores, for $88.4 Million. It looks like a steal for PIR.

I came across the blog Green Your Decor, initially by the article on Flooring You Can Live With: Natural Cork. Mike and I have talked about ripping up the carpet, refinishing the hardwood floors underneath and using area rugs. This made me sit upright:.
